The Hyatt Regency is right at the Shoreline Village, the Rainbow Harbor, and the Shoreline Marina. One can walk east from the Hyatt Regency about 1/4 mile, along the Shoreline Marina, to a large, sandy, public beach. The Aquarium of the Pacific is about a 1/4 mile west of the Hyatt Regency.

Public Transportation in Long Beach and Los Angeles

Long Beach Transit. There is a free bus service that runs all day between the Queen Mary, the Convention Center (which is next to the POPL hotel), and beyond.
Notice that LBTransit #111, $0.90, runs every 30-60 minutes and takes 45 minutes from the Long Beach airport to the vicinity of the POPL hotel.

LA Metro (MTA).

Transit from LAX to the POPL hotel: "G" shuttle bus to Green Line (rail, $1.25) to Blue Line (rail, another $1.25). Both LBT #111 and the Blue Line go to the Long Beach Transit Mall, W 1st St & Pine Ave, which is about 1/4 mile from the POPL hotel.
