Conference Location

Deneve Commons Bldg, Plaza Room (third Floor), UCLA campus, near this corner: Strathmore Pl & Charles E Young Dr N, Los Angeles, CA 90024, US. On this map, start at the red marker, go north on Charles E Young Dr W about 600 ft (200 m), and find Deneve Commons Bldg on the left. Note: Google likes to call the building "Deneve Commons Bldg" while UCLA likes to call the same building "DeNeve Plaza"; they are one and the same building with two names! UCLA campus is in Westwood. Breakfast and lunch will be in DeNeve Plaza in the dining room, at the lower level of the building. Breakfast is 7-9am; lunch is 11am-2pm.

The address is:

Parking

Parking permits are required at all times for all vehicles parked on the UCLA campus. The conference attendees will be given priority assignment to the closest parking structure: the parking garage is located adjacent to DeNeve Plaza. You can buy parking permits in advance (before July 27, 2008), or you can buy parking permits from the parking booths on campus; in both cases the price is $9 per day.

Information for those who have bought parking permits in advance. If you are staying in DeNeve Plaza, then you will receive your parking permits when you check in at the front desk of DeNeve Plaza. If you are staying somewhere else, then you will receive your parking permits when you sign in to the workshop Sunday morning (or later). Either way, park right outside DeNeve Plaza, get your parking permit, and then park in the DeNeve parking garage, most of which is underground.

Accomodation (Deadline: July 27, 2008)

We have reserved sleeping rooms in DeNeve Plaza on the UCLA campus, in the building in which the conference will take place. DeNeve Plaza features single or double occupancy rooms (two twin beds in each) with private baths. The rooms are all-air conditioned, nonsmoking, and equipped with alarm clocks, cable television, daily maid service, bathroom amenities, and Internet access. Rooms accessible to people with disabilities are available.

Guests who bring their own computer can access the Internet directly via the Ethernet port in the sleeping room.

Each room has a telephone that allows complimentary access to UCLA extensions and to local calls within a certain radius of UCLA campus. To make local and long distance calls, guests must use a telephone calling card. Telephone calling cards are available for sale at the front desk.

Check-in time is 4:00pm; every effort will be made to accomodate early arrivels. Check-out time is 11:00am. The front desk is open 24 hours a day.

UCLA campus recreation facilities are available for the attendees who stay in DeNeve Plaza. The room key allows admission on an individual basis into all recreational facilities. The John Wooden Center and the Sunset Canyon Recreation Center include swimming pools, weight rooms, tennis courts, racquetball courts, and handball courts.

Attendees who stay in DeNeve Plaza will check-in at the DeNeve Plaza Front Desk.

Hotels around UCLA

In case you don't want to stay in DeNeve Plaza on the UCLA campus, you might stay in a hotel nearby. Here are some suggestions:

Travel

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), 1 World Way, Los Angeles, CA 90045; the main airport in Los Angeles; 15 miles from the conference site (35-40 minutes drive).

Ground transportation from LAX: The FlyAway bus goes to three different places: Westwood (which is where UCLA and SPIN is located), Union Station (which is in downtown Los Angeles), and Van Nuys (which is well northwest of UCLA). If you find yourself at Union Station or Van Nuys, you might either go back to LAX (and then to Westwood!), or take a taxi to UCLA.

Prime Time Shuttle and SuperShuttle are competing alternatives that provide similar services. The shuttle buses are parked outside the airport terminals; one simply catches one, and then share the ride with several people to their individual destinations. Prime Time Shuttle and SuperShuttle tend to be cheaper than taxis but you have to sit in a van with other people that get dropped off in places on the way.

For Prime Time Shuttle, SuperShuttle, or taxi, simply give the drive the address of DeNeve Plaza above. Tell them you are going to UCLA housing at DeNeve Plaza and they will know where to go. Prime Time Shuttle, SuperShuttle, and taxi will take you to the door of DeNeve Plaza, while the FlyAway bus will let you off at a stop about 0.7 miles (1 km) from DeNeve Plaza. A taxi is likely to cost about $60 one-way.

Car rental comparison shopping: orbitz. Some major car rental agencies: Ace, Advantage Rent a Car, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar Car Rental, Enterprise, Fox, Hertz, National, Payless, Thrifty Car Rental.
