JTB Old Release Notes

OLD RELEASE NOTES

This page contains release notes and known issues for the old versions of JTB, as well as features we had planned to implement in newer versions. The release notes for the current version may be obtained here.

1.1 Pre-Release Beta Notes

JTB 1.1pre1 was released February 9, 1998. The following features and changes are present in this version:

A syntax tree builder for the Scheme language can now be generated with the -scheme option.
Added some optimizations. Memory usage was reduced by 25% on the Pretty Printer example.

Token strings are interned, i.e. duplicate strings are no longer stored multiple times. Instead, they are drawn from a pool of all the strings used.
The trimToSize() method is now called on all Vectors in the tree.

Some minor bugs were fixed.

JTB 1.1pre2 was released April 22, 1998. The following features and changes are present in this version:

Added command-line option -tk to save JavaCC special tokens in the parse tree.
Minor bugs fixed.

JTB 1.1pre3 was released September 13, 1998. The following features and changes are present in this version:

Visitor has been changed from a class to an interface.

A new visitor named DepthFirstVisitor is now generated. This visitor visits all the nodes in the tree--it essentially duplicates what the Visitor class did prior to this version.
The consequence of this change is that code written for versions of JTB prior to 1.1pre3 must be altered in order to compile and run. Simply replace all occurences of Visitor with DepthFirstVisitor.

The JavaCC Token fields beginLine, endLine, beginColumn, and endColumn have been added to the NodeToken class.
The specialToken Vector in NodeToken now stores a list of NodeTokens, as opposed to a list of Strings as it did in 1.1pre2.
Added command-line option -jd to produce JavaDoc friendly comments (see the Documentation page for details).

JTB 1.1pre4 was released November 19, 1998. The following features and changes are present in this version:

Two new "toolkit" visitors are generated by using the -printer option.

TreeDumper, when used on a syntax tree, will dump all the nodes of the tree using the token information in each NodeToken. If none of the token information has been changed after parsing, this has the effect of printing out the tree exactly as it was read in. The default location is System.out, but an OutputStream or Writer may also be specified.
TreeFormatter is a skeleton pretty printer template. It contains methods that simplify and speed up writting pretty printers for a grammar. It operates on a tree by changing the token location variables in NodeTokens. The tree can then be passed to TreeDumper for output.

Added command-line option -w to cause JTB to not overwrite files that currently exist.
Fixed minor bugs.
